First Baptist Church Halifax, 1330 Oxford
A mini-conference led by James Chubb, Andrew Barss, and Margaret Machum is to be held May 12-13, 2017 in Halifax. Entitled Saving the Organ: Restoring Organ Popularity in the Twenty-First Century, the concept of the conference is to bring together as many people as possible from all facets of the organ world, including organists, organ builders, technicians, teachers, clergy,
financial people, to help establish a new industry-wide framework and plan for building the environment for the success of the organ in the 21st century.
The mini-conference will take place Friday evening, May 12, and all day Saturday, May 13, 2017. The schedule includes an introduction to the conference and keynote speaker on Friday evening with
workshops by three others on Sound and Architecture, Economics, and Priorities on Saturday morning and afternoon. The final session will be a general discussion with the leaders and special guests on the
issues and the development of plans for moving forward.
For those who wish to stay for Sunday, a church service with strong use of the organ is being planned, followed by lunch at a local restaurant, and then a visit to two churches with interesting environments to assess and discuss.
