David MacDonald Scholarship

David MacDonald Scholarship Fund

David MacDonald was a long-time member of the Halifax Centre, taught organ at Dalhousie University, was a member of faculty at the Atlantic School of Theology and was a highly-regarded organist and teacher in general. During 1985, David performed the entire organ works of J. S. Bach. Sadly, he passed away in the summer of 2003.

In 2014 as a tribute to David, the Halifax Centre of the RCCO renamed its scholarship fund to the “David MacDonald Organ Scholarship Fund.”

This scholarship-fund was established to help pianists and organists improve their playing of hymns and organ repertoire, their accompanying of anthems and their general organ-playing technique.

The scholarships are awarded annually, usually in the fall, and provide for 8 private organ lessons during the academic year (September to May) with one of the approved teachers in Halifax .  Applicants do not have to be members of the RCCO but are certainly encouraged be members.  The funding is paid directly to the teachers after the lessons have been given.
